Cuttack: Two death certificates have been issued against a woman, with different dates of death.

The matter came to light when the Orissa High Court was hearing a review petition.

The two different death certificates have been issued against Manorama Nayak of Asurali in Bhadrak district. One certificate states that she died on June 12, 2006. Another one states her date of death as June 12, 2015.

A single judge bench of Justice Biswanath Rath directed the Crime Branch to probe the matter. The certificates were reportedly issued by the state Health Department.

“This court finds there is some attempt to manipulate the date of death of Manorama Nayak and both sides rely on multiple death certificates indicating different dates of death involving one common person,” the judge said.

“It is in these circumstances while declining to entertain the review petition directs the Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Cuttack, to examine the issue involved in this matter in two months,” Justice Rath said in his order.
