Mumbai: Amid calls for ban on his future projects, Diljit Dosanjh has defended his decision to work with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and even praised her for professionalism.
This didn’t go down well with netizens, who started trolling the actor-singer under a Reddit thread featuring a video clip from his interview.
A social media user opined, “Can we actually cancel his citizenship? Are there any provisions for that? I would like him to not enter this country again please 🙏🏼.”
Another user wrote, “He is rich enough to afford some loss by not releasing the film but he chose not to.”
One comment read, “He is a snake and we should stop asking a snake why he bit us. Rather avoid this snake and ignore his movies.”
Another netizen agreed and wrote, “Snakes’ nature is to slither…”
One angry user claimed, “Jo apne desh ka nhi hua woh kisi ka nhi hota, ese gadaar hamesha rahe hai India mein. (One who is not loyal to his country, can never be loyal to anyone.)”
Some defended Diljit and wrote, “Sorry what’s the issue here ? They should have shelved the film because of the war? The producers would have suffered huge loses,”
“But it’s true. The film has been made, money has been lost. Why should producers lose the amount they paid? If the shooting would have started after attack then maybe they could have stopped, but this is too late. Are you going to pay the producers the amount they spent? If yes, producers will be glad to stop the release. Since you are not losing money it’s easy for you to advice,” stated one person.
For the unversed, during an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit had shared, “Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi. (When the film was being made, the situation was normal. After that what all happened was not in our hands. Then the producers decided that this film will not be released in India now. So, let us release this film overseas. Producers have invested a lot of money in making this film. Everything was fine at that time).”
Disclosing the financial implications, he added, “They know there will be a loss because you’re removing an entire territory. Even when I signed the film, everything was fine. Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.”
Asked about working with Hania, Diljit praised his co-star.
“Very good. She’s very professional. I really respect her work and her privacy. I’m also a very private person myself and I give everyone their space, especially women. To the point hi baat hoti hai zayada kuch nahi.”
‘Sardaar Ji 3’ is scheduled for international release on June 27.
