Bhubaneswar: The day temperature in Odisha has shot up with the return of heatwave and hot and humid weather conditions amid stalled progress of the southwest monsoon.
The northern limits of monsoon has remained static over Mumbai, Ahilyanagar (Maharashtra); Adilabad (Telangana); Bhawanipatna and Puri (Odisha) and Sandheads (West Bengal). Conditions are not favourable for its further progress at least for the next seven days, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The weather agency further stated that the mercury levels may rise by 2-3°C across Odisha during the next four days. “There will be no large change thereafter in the subsequent 3 days,” it added.
Yellow warning for both heatwave and hot and humid weather conditions has been issued for several districts till June 6.
By 11.30 this morning, the day temperature touched 36.6°C in Bhubaneswar after soaring to 33.4°C by 8.30 am. Balasore was the hottest at 38.4°C, followed by Sambalpur (37.2°C), Bhubaneswar (36.6°C), and Jharsuguda and Puri at 36.4°C each.
The state capital had recorded 39.6 °C and Cuttack, Baripada, Talcher and Paralakhemundi 39.4°C each, with Balasore hottest at 39.8°C on Monday.

June 3: Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Ganjam.
June 4: Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh and Ganjam.
June 5: Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh and Ganjam.
June 6: Jajpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh and Ganjam.
In the wake of the adverse weather conditions, people have been advised to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours (11 am-3 pm).
