Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience severe heatwave, heatwave, hot and humid and warm night conditions from April 23-26, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
Orange warning of severe heatwave continues for Jharsuguda, which had recorded an all-time high temperature of 46.2°C for April the previous day, till April 24. Warm nights may prevail at one or two places in Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Balangir on April 23-24 and also in Mayurbhanj on April 24.
Hot and humid conditions may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal from April 23-26.
HEATWAVE WARNINGS
April 23: Orange warning has also been sounded for one or two places in Boudh, Balangir, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Sonepur districts and yellow warning for one or two places in Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Deogarh and Angul districts.
April 24: Orange warning has been issued for one or two places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Bargarh. Similarly, heatwave conditions may also prevail at one or two places in Kalahandi, Nupada, Deogarh and Angul districts.
April 25: Yellow warning for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Angul, and Deogarh.
April 26: Yellow warning for one or two places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Jharsuguda.
The weather agency has warned of heat cramps and heat rash during peak hours of the day (11 am to 3pm). People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside and schedule strenuous jobs to cooler times of the day.
It has also forecast no large change in the day temperature in the next 4 days, during which the mercury may soar to 43°C in Jharsuguda, Angul, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Bargarh.
The mercury levels are likely to fall thereafter by 2-4°C during the subsequent 3 days, it added.
