Bhubaneswar: The low pressure induced rain has inundated several areas in different districts and flooded rivers in Odisha.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have been experiencing incessant heavy spells with water entering houses and shops in low lying areas.

On the other hand, tourists to the Sun Temple at Konark had to wade through knee-deep water which got accumulated around the historic site due to the rain.

In North Odisha, Jalaka river breached danger mark at Mathani in Basta block of Balasore district following incessant rainfall in the upper catchment area. The river was flowing at 5.7 metre against the danger mark of 5.5 metre.

Sources said the water level is still continuing to rise. Following this, precautionary measures have been taken to save lives of people living along the river bank.

The IMD, in a special bulletin, stated the low pressure system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha-West Bengal coasts during next 12 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the subsequent 2-3 days.

The IMD has issued red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy (>20cm) for the districts of Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh.

Orange warning has been issued for the districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Jajpur and Bhadrak. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash these districts till 8.30 am of September 13.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

The Met office has also issued a wind warning for inland areas with speed reaching up to 30 to 40 km/hr gusting up to 50 km/hr likely to occur over the coastal districts and North Odisha, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam and Nayagarh.
