Heavy Rain In Upper Catchment: 6 More Gates Of Odisha’s Hirakud Dam To Be Opened

Sambalpur: With water level in Hirakud dam rapidly increasing, the authorities have decided to open 6 more sluice gates at 2 pm on Wednesday.

Chief Engineer of Hirakud Dam Anand Chandra Sahu said due to heavy downpour in upper catchment areas of river Mahanadi, 6 more gates of the dam will be opened to release excess water at 2 pm.

The dam authorities opened 6 gates in the morning as the water level rose to 628.10 feet against the reservoir level of 630 feet at 9 am. With these, already 12 sluice gates  of the dam have been opened.

In the morning, the inflow of the floodwater into the reservoir was 2,68,081 cusecs and outflow 1,26,551 cusecs.

The Mahanadi was flowing near danger mark at Naraj, Devi at Alipingal, Ib at Sundargarh, Brahmani at Panposh and Jenapur and Subarnarekha at Rajghat.
