Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is likely to lash Odisha during the next 48 hours as the well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood concentrated into a depression, the weatherman said.
At 08:30 hrs IST of Wednesday, the depression lay centred near latitude 8.5º N and longitude 88.5 ºE, about 1160 km to the southeast of Machillipatnam and 1250 km south-southeast of Gopalpur.
According to special relief commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi, the system is very likely to move northwestwards and reach Andhra Pradesh coast around December 8 evening. The system is expected to intensify further into a deep depression during the next 48 hours. However, there is probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near Andhra Pradesh coast.
According to Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast, rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Nicobar Islands and rainfall at many places over Andaman Islands during the next two days. Rainfall at many places is very likely over north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha during December 7 to 9 with isolated heavy falls on December 8 and 9. Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over and around Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter. Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely to prevail along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from December 7 evening to 9 morning and decrease thereafter.
Fishermen along and off north Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts are advised not to venture into sea till December 9 morning as sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast.
