Bhubaneswar: Most parts of interior Odisha received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday morning.

IMD also sounded a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in five coastal districts.

The weather bulletin said under the influence of two cyclonic circulations in Odisha’s neighbourhood, heavy rain will lash one or two places in the districts of Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsingpur, Kendrapada and Puri on Tuesday.

Besides, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph will occur at one or two places over the coastal districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Kandhamal, the bulletin added.

It also predicted thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rainfall with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogadh, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Puri between 10 am and 1 pm on Tuesday.

Apart from heavy rainfall warning, IMD has also issued yellow warning for dense fog at one or two places over the north coastal districts of Nayagarh, Khurda, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Angul on Thursday and Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsingpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Angul, Kandhamal and Rayagada on Friday.

Due to the rainfall activity, the night temperature will fall by 2-3 degree Celsius in the state for 2-3 days from Friday.

Meanwhile, the rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours was highest in Sonepur with 57.8 mm followed by Boudh (45.2), Phulbani (41), Balangir (30), Angul (24.6), Sambalpur (20.3), Hirakud (19.3), Talcher (14), Keonjhar (13), Titlagarh (13), Jharsuguda (10.2), Bhubaneswar (7.6), Sundargarh (6), Baripada (5), Balasore (2.6) and Cuttack (2).

Meanwhile, life has been hit in Balangir town since Monday night as heavy rain and strong wind continued lashing the town. There is no power in the town due to snapping of power lines due to falling of big trees at several places in the town.

Besides, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar have also been receiving heavy rainfall since Tuesday morning. Busy thoroughfares in the two cities wore a deserted look due to the squally weather.
