Bhubaneswar: Conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over several more areas of Odisha during the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
The forecast released by the IMD is significant as the movement of monsoon remained subdued for around a fortnight after it made an early onset this year.
In its midday bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that the day temperature in the state is likely to drop further by 2 to 4 degree Celsius from Sunday.
The weather agency issued a yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, and heavy rainfall at one or two places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts up to Sunday morning.
On June 15-16, yellow warning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) was issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Malkangir.
On June 16-17, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Sundargarh, and Keonjhar where an orange warning was issued.
On June 17-18, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Koraput. The weather agency has issued an orange warning for these districts.
People in these districts are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity, avoid open areas, and follow local administration advisories. The state may also witness temporary flooding in low-lying areas due to intense rainfall.
On June 18-19, thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph & heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh
