Mumbai: Serum Institute of India’s CEO Adar Poonawalla has revealed the Covishield vaccine prices.

The vaccine will be supplied to the government at Rs 250 per dose and will be sold in the private market at Rs 1,000 per dose.

Since the vaccine is administered in two doses, the cost for procuring it at private clinics will be Rs 2,000.

SII’s vaccine, which has been developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca, is cheaper than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and is easier to transport as it requires normal refrigeration temperatures.

Poonawalla informed that his company is making 50-60 million doses of the vaccine every month.

He also said that the central government is planning to vaccinate more than 130 crore people by mid-2021.

The DGCI on Sunday granted approval to Serum’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s indigenously-developed Covaxin.

Union Health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said the vaccine will be provided free of cost to frontline workers.
