New Delhi: Are you planning to upgrade your iPhone? Well, that may pinch your pockets harder. Your preferred model of iPhone can be a bit more expensive now, courtesy tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
According to reports, iPhones will be 30% to 40% pricier if Apple chooses to pass on the additional expenses to its customers.
Apple’s iPhones are produced primarily in China. And, not to forget China has been particularly hard hit by the tariffs. The effect of the tariffs might put Apple in a tough situation, believe market watchers. It can balance the tariff burden in two ways—either absorb the cost or pass it along to the consumers.
If it chooses to burden the customer, then the most affordable iPhone 16 model, now priced at $799 (over Rs 68,000), would rise to around $1,142 (over Rs 97,000), recording a hike of 43%.
The cost of a premium model such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max may cost around $2,300 (around Rs 2 lakh).
This hike comes after President Trump’s tariffs on a variety of Chinese imports.
In the past, reports claimed, Apple had managed to sidestep price hikes through special exemptions. But no exemptions have been made this time.
Hike in prices may affect iPhone sales, which is already flagging in major markets. Consumers are not rushing to buy the latest models as the new artificial intelligence features provided by Apple’s iPhone Intelligence are not enticing, analysts claimed.
