Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday expressed grief and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of an aspirant, who died during the physical test for the recruitment of Home Guards at Deogarh Reserve police station.
Saheba Dehury (19), a resident of Budido village in the Reamal block of Deogarh district, died during the physical examination on Wednesday. He collapsed while running during the test conducted at around 3 pm. Police personnel on duty immediately rushed him to Deogarh district headquarters hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
His father, Pradeep Kumar Dehury, alleged he fell unconscious due to exhaustion since the test was conducted under extreme heat.
A notification was issued for the recruitment to 60 Home Guard posts in Deogarh district.
Earlier this month, two candidates died after the 25-km walk, which was part of the recruitment for the posts of forest guard, forester and livestock inspector conducted by the Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) in Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts.
