Honoured By Appointment As Odisha DGP: Abhay

Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Abhay, who will take charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha on Monday, said that he is deeply honoured and humbled by his new appointment.

“I look forward to serve the people of Odisha to the best of my capacity,” he told Odishabytes on Saturday.

The DGP-designate is a 1986 batch officer, who had been serving as the Director of Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA) since January 2, 2018. He was relieved of his duty and given the Guard of Honour on Friday.

Abhay had a brief but memorable tenure at NPA and trained the 70RR and 71RR of IPS probationers.

He is scheduled to take charge from the in-charge DGP Satyajit Mohanty at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack on Monday.

In a major reshuffle on November 20, the state government had removed the incumbent in-charge DGP and Director-General Fire Services and Home Guard, BK Sharma and posted him as Officer On Special Duty (OSD), Home Department and posted the Special DG, Intelligence, Satyajit, as the in-charge DGP.
