Chennai: C Joseph Vijay aka Thalapathy Vijay humbled the mighty political forces of Tamil Nadu, with his two-year-old party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) keeping the ruling DMK and its closes rival AIADMK at bay in the recent Assembly elections.
A day after the actor-politician took oath as Tamil Nadu’s first CM from a non-Dravidian party, Vijay met his predecessor M K Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi at their residence.
Stalin welcomed Vijay at his Chennai residence, where the two leaders exchanged greetings and embraced each other warmly.
Visuals and video clips showed Vijay, in a black suit, being warmly embraced by Stalin, as the two leaders greeted each other with folded hands.
Udhayanidhi Stalin joined his father and Vijay. During the meeting, Vijay and Stalin exchanged silk shawls and bouquets.

DMK chief Stalin later took to X and shared pictures of Vijay’s courtesy call.
“Honourable Mr Vijay, who has assumed the role of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, met me with political courtesy and received my greetings. I extended to him my heartfelt congratulations as well as my advice,” Stalin wrote in Tamil.

The brief interaction comes days before the floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, scheduled on May 13.
The TVK, which won 108 seats to fall 10 short of the halfway mark, needed support from the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI, CPIM(M) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to show the Governor it had the majority.
Now, Vijay’s party will have to prove its majority on the floor of the House.
Vijay had launched a sharp attack on DMK government soon after taking oath on Sunday, as he mentioned the state’s alleged Rs 10 lakh-crore debt burden his party was inheriting.
Stalin hit back at Vijay, advising him to avoid blaming the previous government over the state’s financial condition, and instead, fulfil promises made to the people.
“You yourself mentioned in your very first speech the accusation that ‘the previous government left behind a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and emptied the treasury’. The debt level of Tamil Nadu is within the permitted limits. We clearly explained the financial position of the Tamil Nadu government in the February budget itself. Didn’t you know that?” the former chief minister said.
