Rayagada: In a gruesome incident, the husband and father-in-law of the sarpanch of Likitipadar in the Rayagada district of Odisha were hacked to death on Friday night.

According to reports, miscreants barged into the house of sarpanch Janaki Gamang and entered into an argument with her husband Agadhu Gamang and father-in-law Suma Gamang. The altercation was over a land dispute at Sarigada in the Padmapur block of Rayagada.

Things soon got out of hand and the miscreants started attacking the father-son duo with sharp weapons. The sarpanch managed to flee and alert locals. When she returned to the house with others, her husband and father-in-law lay dead in the courtyard.

The SDPO of Gunupur, along with a strong force from the Padmapur police station reached the spot on receiving information. The bodies have been sent for autopsy and an investigation has been launched. The real motive behind the crime can only be ascertained after the investigation is completed.

“There were multiple injuries on the bodies. There was a lot of bleeding. The miscreants had clearly come to their house to kill them. These are not accidental deaths. We are searching for the killers,” a police official said.

There is considerable tension in the area and villagers are scared. The police are keeping watch on the situation.
