Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has outlined plans to develop the mystical Chandipur beach in Odisha Balasore district to secure the prestigious Blue Flag certification.
“Perhaps, this is the most beautiful beach in our state with natural landscaping. The Tourism department will make all efforts to promote this beach. People visit here to witness its unique phenomenon where the sea recedes up to 5 km during low tide, making it a site of natural wonder. Balasore will be a focus area to draw global tourists to our state,” she said.
Parida, who also holds the Tourism portfolio, mentioned a Rs 11 crore proposal to develop the beach. “While Rs 2 crore was initially sanctioned, the remaining Rs 9 crore will immediately be released to the district. We need to maintain its picture beauty,” she said.
She also stressed the need to bring in investors to keep the tourists engaged in different activities. “The beach boasts abundant natural attractions and nearby islands, ideal for tourists. There is a lack of investment in this area but numerous amenities and activities can be introduced through planned development, significantly increasing visitor numbers. The government will support the establishment of shops and businesses,” she said.
Echoing her previous efforts to position Odisha as a prime destination for weddings, the Deputy CM also outlined plans for beachfront events that align with sustainable tourism standards. It involves securing a Blue Flag certification for the beach, establishing it as a top-tier, eco-friendly destination. This would be followed by introducing water sports and an eco-retreat camp to draw tourists, she added.
