Hyderabad: A couple from Hyderabad was arrested for allegedly filming their sexual acts, live-streaming them on a mobile app, and selling access to the videos for money, police said on Friday. The incident came to light after a tip-off led to a raid by the East Zone Task Force.
According to officials, the couple — a 41-year-old auto-rickshaw driver and his 37-year-old wife — had been producing adult content from their home in Mallikarjuna Nagar, Amberpet. They reportedly wore masks to conceal their identities during the filming sessions and then shared the recordings via private links.
Police said the duo charged ₹2,000 for live sessions and ₹500 for each recorded clip. The operation is believed to have earned them more than the husband’s income from his day job.
“They confessed to filming and selling their videos, citing financial pressure and the need for easy money,” said an official from the Hyderabad police, as quoted by Hindustan Times. The couple reportedly used high-definition cameras, smartphones, and tripods to record the content. All equipment, along with digital payment records, was seized during the raid.
Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, including Section 67A, which deals with the publishing or transmission of sexually explicit material. They have also invoked Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for obscenity in a public place, after it was found that some videos were recorded on the couple’s terrace.
Police are further investigating the platforms used by the couple for distribution, as well as the identities of individuals who purchased access to the videos. Notices may be issued to several buyers, officials said.
The couple was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
