IIT sexual harassment row: PhD scholar seeks CM’s intervention

Bhubaneswar: The PhD scholar, who had brought sexual harassment charges against a senior professor of IIT-Bhubaneswar, submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here on Saturday, seeking his immediate intervention in the matter.
Earlier in the day, the students had approached the BJP headquarters in the state capital and submitted a memorandum to Union Petroleum
Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and party’s state president Basanta Panda.
On Friday, the woman, hailing from West Bengal, had lodged an FIR at Mahila police station against Prof P D Reddy and a few other officials of the institute for allegedly harassing her sexually.
The woman had earlier expressed dissatisfaction over the report of the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of the IIT, which had conducted an inquiry into the matter and termed the allegation as baseless.
On July 15, the PhD scholar had accused the professor of sexually and mentally harassed by the professor. Her husband, who is also pursuing PhD in the institute, was also mentally tortured by the same professor, she alleged.
