Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for 12 districts of Odisha till 9 pm on Tuesday.
Severe thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by squall at 60-70 kmph and moderate to intense spell of rain may affect some parts of Nayagarh, Boudh and Kandhamal districts.
The weather agency has warned of damage to thatched huts, power and communication lines due to breaking of branches, standing crops, banana, papaya trees and orchards and waterlogging in low-lying area. People have been advised to take shelter in concrete structures and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles and wires.
Moderate thunderstorm/lightning with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and light to moderate rain is also likely in some parts of Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Malkangiri.
Under its impact, minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, banana trees, standing crops may occur. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places.
Light to moderate thunderstorm/lightning with gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and light to moderate rain may also occur in some parts of Koraput, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. People in these districts have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
