Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to get some relief from the heatwave and hot and humid conditions with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface winds, hail and heavy rainfall from April 26.
The weather agency has sounded orange and yellow warnings till April 29. It further stated that there will be no large change in the day temperature in the next 2 days during which mercury may soar past 42°C in Jharsuguda, Boudh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Sundergarh, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts. The mercury level will thereafter fall by 3-5°C during the subsequent 3 days.
On April 25-26, heatwave may prevail at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, and Balangir. Hot and humid conditions are also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
On April 25, heatwave conditions may also prevail at one or two places in Angul, Sonepur, Sundargarh,and Bargarh. Warm nights are also likely at one or two places in Sambalpur, and Balangir.
Thunderstorm activity along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to resume at one or two places in Malkangiri, Ganjam, Koraput and Mayurbhanj on April 26.
