Bhubaneswar: Taking a dig at Congress for raising questions over the fate of Simla Agreement, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal said that the government will give a proper answer to the grand old party.
“The Centre will give a proper answer to Congress on the issue and clearly explain its stand,” Samal told the Media.
Notably, the Congress has urged the Centre to clarify whether it is open to third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue, warning that such as stance could potentially violate the Simla Agreement.
The grand old party pointed to US President Donald Trump’s daily statements, claiming that he was intervening in the matter, and said a clarification from the union government on the matter was inevitable.
While addressing a party programme in New Delhi on Monday, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said the party wants to know whether there has been a shift in the country’s foreign policy, and therefore the matter has to be taken up in the Parliament at the earliest.
Questions are now being raised if the Simla Agreement has been violated.
The Odisha BJP chief asserted that India abides by the Simla agreement and there should not be any doubt. “We are working as per the Simla Agreement without any deviation. It is not our principle to make any compromise on foreign affairs, Samal said.
On the meeting of the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan being held over ceasefire agreement, the Odisha BJP chief said India will give its ultimatum to the neighbouring country in clear terms during talks.
It may be noted that Pakistan has announced suspension of the Simla Agreement of 1972 as part of a series of retaliatory actions in response to India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
