New Delhi: Hours after blocking China’s Global Times and Turkey’s TRT World, India restored access to the X accounts of these state-run media handles.
These had been unavailable in India from the early hours of Wednesday.
The X account handles of Global Times and Xinhua earlier in the day showed that they have been withheld in India in response to a legal request.
Ditto with the X account of Turkish news broadcaster TRT World, which showed the message – “Account Withheld @trtworldhas been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”
Turkish-origin drones were used by Pakistan during last week’s conflict with India, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan publicly supporting Pakistan and describing the victims of Indian strikes as “martyrs”.
On May 8, Indian government ordered social media platform X to block over 8,000 accounts in India.
India’s Embassy in China had rebuked Chinese media outlet Global Times for reporting that Pakistan shot down an Indian fighter jet and advised it to verify facts and sources before publishing such reports.
“Dear @globaltimesnews, we would recommend you verify your facts and cross-examine your sources before pushing out this kind of disinformation,” the Embassy of India in Beijing said on X.
