India Surpasses Spain To Become Fifth Worst Affected By COVID-19; Total 2.46 Lakh
New Delhi: India has now become the fifth worst coronavirus-affected country, surpassing Spain.
With 9,971 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours, the total cases in India touched 2,46,628, according to the data available on the Health Ministry’s website till 8 am on Sunday.
Spain has so far reported 2,41,310 cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Besides, the death toll in India stood at 6,929 with 287 more people succumbing to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.
Among all the states, Maharashtra continues to remain at the top with 82,968 coronavirus cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (30,152), Delhi (27,654), Gujarat (19,592) and Rajasthan (10,331), the ministry reported.
On a positive side, the country’s recovery rate has improved to 48.36 per cent with 1,19,293 people having been cured of the infection so far, it added.
The four that are still ahead of India in COVID-19 cases are US, Brazil, Russia and the UK.
