India Thrash England By Innings & 25 Runs, Qualify For World Test Championship Final

Ahmadabad: India beat England by an innings in the fourth and final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Saturday.

Resuming the overnight score at 294 for 7, the host piled up 365 before Axar Patel got run out for 43. The innings later folded at 365 with Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Siraj failing to open their account and leaving Washington Sundar at 96 not out at the non-striker’s end.

The visitors began their second innings disastrously with the quick dismissal of the top six batsmen with only 65 runs on the board. With the two spinners Axar Patel and Ravi Chandra Ashwin bowling from the two ends, England were bundled out for 135.

While the two spinners claimed five wickets each, the dashing Rishav Pant won the match of the match award for his brilliant ton and Ashwin the Man of the Series award.

With this comprehensive 3-1 series victory, India have qualified for the final of the World Test Championship with New Zealand at Lords in June this year.

India (First Innings) 365
England (First Innings): 205 and 135 (Second Innings)
