Mumbai: Indian government has issued an advisory to OTT and other streaming platforms to remove Pakistani origin content with immediate effect.
Citing potential links between Pakistani actors and terrorist attacks in India, including the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) stated that web series, films, songs, podcasts, and any other content of Pakistani origin must be removed immediately, whether available on a subscription basis or otherwise.
Issued under the 2021 IT Rules, the advisory serves as a caution and enforcement notice, warning the platforms not to host, display, upload, publish, or transmit any content that threatens India’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty or endangers public order.
“This ministry has received references from Hon’ble Members of Parliament, representations from statutory organisations and public grievances regarding alleged spread of obscene, pornographic and vulgar content published by certain publishers of online curated content (OTT platforms) and Social Media,” the advisory read.
