Innocent Man From Andhra Beaten Up On Suspicion Of Thief In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: Appearance can be deceptive. It proved true in case of a man, who was rescued by police, after being beaten up by the people on suspicion of being a thief in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The people of Huntulu village under Golanthara police station in the district spotted the man moving suspiciously on Thursday night. The man did not belong to the village or nearby places. He was wearing dirty clothes and had unkempt hair and beard.
The villagers caught hold of him and wanted to know his identity. As he could not speak Odia nor explain the reason for visiting the village, they suspected him to be a thief and beat him up mercilessly. Later, they informed the police.
A police team went to the village and took the man into custody. During questioning, the police came to know that the man’s name was G Srinu and he belonged to Gantiada village under Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh.
Berhampur SP Sarvana Vivek said Srinu had come to his relatives staying near Berhampur railway station but lost his way and went to Huntulu village. Following his treatment, the police handed him over to his relatives, he added.
