Bhubaneswar: A programme to mark International Nurses Day was organised at Phulnakhara campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here on Sunday.

Congratulating all nurses for having embraced a profession that truly served humanity, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed-to-be-University Vice-President Saswati Das said that the way a nurse looks after a patient is comparable to a mother’s care.

“It is a coincidence that International Mother’s Day and International Nurses Day fell on the same day, but it is only logical,” said Das.

Dean of the institute Prof. (Dr) Arakhita Swain, Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr) Rajesh Kumar Lenka and Nursing Superintendent (In-charge) Kamalini Mallick also spoke on the occasion.

Assistant Nursing Superintendent Pranati Rani Behera administered the Florence Nightingale Oath to the nurses.

A program was also organised at Sitalapalli campus of IMS and SUM Hospital in Berhampur to mark the occasion.

Director of the hospital Deba Prasad Dash, Surgery department Consultant Dr Ramesh Chandra Mishra, Assistant Professor in Gynaecology department Dr Subhasis Panigrahi, Consultant Dr Rishika Sen, Assistant Professor in Orthopaedics department Dr Ranjit Patra, Assistant Professor in Psychiatry department Dr Biswajit Samal, Paediatrician Dr Minakshi Sahu and Medicine specialist Dr Amar Das addressed the gathering.
