Tehran: Iran has presented seven conditions for entering negotiations with the United States, sending its demands to Washington through Qatar while warning that any rejection by US President Donald Trump could push the two countries towards a “decisive war”.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Doha had passed Tehran’s conditions to Washington and that Iran was waiting for Trump’s reply.

“ We remain in contact with the mediator Qatar, which has conveyed our conditions to Washington with the aim of ending the war. We are awaiting President Trump’s response,” Rezaei told Al Jazeera.

Among the conditions outlined by Tehran are a complete halt to hostilities on all fronts, the unfreezing of Iranian assets and the lifting of the naval blockade.

“Our conditions are an end to the war on all fronts, the release of our frozen funds and an end to the naval blockade,” he said.

In a separate message posted on X, Rezaei said Iran had formally announced seven conditions for the start of any talks with the US government, insisting that Tehran’s position was “clear and unambiguous”.

“Iran has announced 7 conditions for starting any negotiations to the US government. Tehran’s message is clear and unambiguous; if Washington wants to escape the quagmire it has created for itself and avoid getting further entangled in it, it has no choice but to accept Iran’s rights and conditions,” he wrote.

“It is in Washington’s interest to accept these conditions. Trump’s threats will not achieve any results. We are prepared for a decisive war,” Rezaei told Al Jazeera.

Qatar, Pakistan Seek To Revive Dialogue

Qatar and Pakistan have been attempting to restart talks between Tehran and Washington since a memorandum of understanding expired last month, according to Al Jazeera.

Several countries in the region have also stepped up efforts to bring the conflict to an end. The war began after the US and Israel carried out strikes on Iran in late February.

Rezaei said the possibility of another American attack could not be ruled out, describing it as “very much on the cards” based on assessments by Iran’s military authorities.

He said Iran had prepared for such an eventuality and revised its military plans after two previous rounds of fighting.

The Iranian official said Tehran’s latest operational planning was centred on US naval forces deployed from the Gulf through the Gulf of Oman and into the Arabian Sea. He also claimed that Iranian forces had recently conducted a test of a multi-warhead anti-ship missile close to a US vessel or aircraft carrier.

Rezaei warned that a new Iranian response would not necessarily be limited to military targets. He said Tehran could target US bases across the region, along with American commercial interests and companies working in local markets.

When asked whether the war could end in the near future, Rezaei said, “In practical terms the war is still going on.”

However, he added that Iran was following a policy intended to bring the conflict to an end “as soon as possible”.

Iran Keeps Nuclear Stance Unchanged

On the country’s nuclear programme, Rezaei said Iran had not made a decision to leave the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

He cautioned, however, that Washington’s actions could eventually force Tehran to reconsider that position. Iran’s nuclear doctrine, he said, had not changed, and the country continued to follow a religious decree that bans the development of nuclear weapons.

Rezaei dismissed reports that Iran might shut the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, saying control of the waterway was “a Yemeni matter” connected to the Houthi movement.

He also said Tehran and Muscat had nearly announced an agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz before the plan was put on hold. According to Rezaei, the agreement was still ready but might need backing from other countries in the region before it could be released publicly.

Meanwhile, Anadolu News Agency reported that the US State Department had issued visas to members of Iran’s delegation for the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week in New York.

The high-level session is scheduled to take place from September 18 to September 28.
