The number of deaths in Italy has reached 3,405, surpassing China’s 3,248. The disease seems to have been contained in China’s Wuhan where no new case has been reported.
The global death toll has crossed 10,000 as well.
The total number of positive cases has also surged to 246,107, up from 182,490 on March 16.
Europe, the new epicentre of the virus, is closing down borders across many countries. Italy, the worst-hit, saw 427 deaths in a single day on Thursday. Spain and France are also seeing huge increase in number of cases. The United Kingdom has confirmed 3,269 cases with 144 deaths.
There are 14,366 confirmed cases in the United States. President Donald Trump lashed out at China for covering up the disease and said that they are fast-tracking antimalarial drugs for use as a treatment. “It could have been contained to that one area of China where it started. And certainly, the world is paying a big price for what they did,” Trump said.
The total number of positive cases in India too has spiked to 206.
