Bhubaneswar: Acid attack survivor Pramodini Roul and her long-time boyfriend Saroj Sahu are looking forward to starting life afresh.
The couple is getting married on Monday after a five-year-long relationship.
Pramodini and Saroj met each other in 2016 and were engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2018.
The wedding will be held at Pramodini’s home in Jagatsinghpur in the presence of both families. All the rituals will be held as per Hindu traditions, said sources.
Spurned Lover
In 2009, Pramodini had suffered 80 per cent burns and lost her eyesight after a spurned lover threw acid on her face. She was then a Plus-II student at Adikabi Sarala Das College. Incidentally, the prime accused, Santosh Bedanta, is an Army jawan and he harboured one-sided feelings for her.
Following the attack, Pramodini remained in the ICU at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for four months. Later, the survivor underwent five reconstructive surgeries. One of these restored partial vision in her left eye.
Arrests
The accused jawan, who was posted at Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir at that time, was arrested by Jagatsinghpur police from Kolkata. Bedanta’s aide, Biswajit Dalsinghray was caught from Nayagarh in 2017.
