Mumbai: Aamir Khan, who is busy with the promotions of his upcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, talked about his career, films and personal life in a recent conversation with Zoom.
The versatile actor, currently dating Gauri Spratt after two failed marriages, shared that while he was not successful in marriages, he was in divorce.
“Humare parivar ke liye bhi ye ek cheez hain jisse hum khush nahi hain. Hum khushi-khushi ye cheez nahi kar rahe hain. Lekin kuch circumstances aise aayein jisme humein lagta hain ki shayad humara rishta badal gaya hain. Toh meri thinking ye hain ki yaa toh main duniya ko jhooth bol sakta hoon aur pretend kar sakta hoon ki Kiran [Rao] aur main bohot khush hain aur hum log shaadi-shuda hain (My family also has to face this, and it is not a happy scenario. Certain circumstances have made us rethink our relationship. So my thinking is I can either pretend that we are quite happy),” Aamir said.
He joked, “Shaadi me main kamyab nahi hua hun, lekin divorce me main hua hoon (I wasn’t successful in marriage, but I’ve been successful in divorce).”
Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta with whom he has two children — Ira Khan and Junaid Khan.
After divorcing Reena, he married Kiran Rao, with whom he has a son named Azad Rao Khan. However, the actor’s second marriage also ended in a divorce.
On his 60th birthday in March this year, Aamir introduced his girlfriend Gauri Spratt to the media.
Aamir, who is called as ‘Tingu’ by his on-screen mother in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, told Just Too Filmy that he was afraid and nervous about his height at the beginning of his Bollywood career.
Asked about being called “tingu” in the film, Aamir said, “Actually, Javed saab once said something about humour that I really agree with. He said a good sense of humour is not just for fun and games, but it actually comes in handy when you’re going through difficulties in life. So if you have a good sense of humour at that time, it’s like a shock absorber. I think I’ve always had that ability, and it’s a very important part of the film.”
On his concerns about height during his early days, Aamir said: “At the beginning of my career, I was very afraid. Amit ji was number one, and he was over six feet tall. Vinod ji, Shatrughan Sinha—all were very tall. So I was nervous, thinking choti height ke actor ki kuch daal galegi ki nahi galegi (whether a short actor like me would even stand a chance). I was very concerned about that. But as it turned out, it was fine.”
Aamir’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, a sequel to the 2007 hit film ‘Taare Zameen Par’, will be released in theatres on June 20.
Helmed by RS Prasanna, the film also stars Genelia D’Souza and is a remake of the Spanish film ‘Campeones’.
