New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have jointly called for a meeting of non-BJP chief ministers of the country on Wednesday afternoon to demand postponement of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled to be held in September.
The virtual meeting is scheduled to be held at 2.30 pm, a top TMC leader close to Mamata said on Tuesday night.
“Chief ministers of all non-BJP ruled states have been invited. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that he will not be able to attend as he has to attend to some urgent business,” a TMC leader involved in arranging the meeting was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
According to the TMC leader, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chhattisgarh’s Bhupesh Baghel and Puducherry’s V Narayanasamy have agreed to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik too had joined the chorus on Tuesday with the same demand in view of the prevailing COVID situation in the country.
