Puri: In a daring daylight robbery, armed miscreants looted a bag containing gold, silver and cash from a jeweller near Chandanpur in Odisha’s Puri district on Thursday.
A a complaint lodged with the police, owner of a jewellery shop Sanjay Das was carrying the valuables in three bags when two motorcycle-borne miscreants intercepted his car and took away the bags at gun-point before fleeing the spot.
The stolen items reportedly include over Rs 30 lakh in cash along with more than 1.5 kg gold and 30 kg silver ornaments. The jeweller, accompanied by his brother-in-law and an employee, was proceeding to deposit the cash in a bank. He also wanted to do the hallmarking of the gold in Cuttack.
On being informed, Chandanpur Police rushed to the site and initiated an investigation. Police have formed three special teams to trace the culprits. The case has been handed over to the SDPO and Sadar Police for detailed inquiry.
Puri SP Prateek Singh said that verification is underway to ascertain the exact amount of gold, silver and cash looted, and all angles are being probed.
