Bhubaneswar: Union Chemicals & Fertilizers Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda visited Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) in Bhubaneswar and reviewed the activities of the centre on Friday.
Nadda was accompanied by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals and senior officials of the Department were present on this occasion.
The Union Minister and CM visited various facilities on campus such as the processing, toolroom, research labs, and interacted with CIPET faculty and students.
Nadda commended CIPET’s role in fostering innovation, research, and industry-ready skill development in the petrochemical and allied domain. The minister said that to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat, CIPET has to strive to look ahead and constantly think of upcoming challenges and their resolution. CIPET must engage with the academia and the industry to develop need-based training programmes. A mechanism has to be developed for the regular feedback from the industry and efforts should be made to prepare the institute for future challenges.
One major requirement of achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat is to envisage standards that would be required in the future and a continuous system of updation of standards may be followed. Apart from developing innovative technologies, the research activities should also focus on immediate problems which arise from time to time and their resolution. Based on the changing environment, the courses and the curriculum should be updated periodically, he said.
The Union Minister also emphasised that the knowledge about the work being done by CIPET must be disseminated widely, so that more and more people are able to take advantage of it.
Majhi also appreciated the work being carried out by CIPET. He said that the State Government is striving to attract more investment into the State and is focusing on development of Industries. To cater to the needs of the developing Chemical industry in Odisha, CIPET should actively contribute towards skilling future ready workforce.
