Cuttack: Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad was sworn in as a judge of the Orissa High Court on Monday. The oath taking was held at a simple ceremony on the HC premises in Cuttack.
The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Harish Tandon, following Justice Shripad’s transfer from the Karnataka High Court to the Orissa HC, which took effect on May 1.
With this, the number of judges in Orissa High Court has gone up to 19.
Justice Dixit, born on July 20, 1964, was initially appointed as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on February 14, 2018, and became a Permanent Judge on January 7, 2020. Prior to his judicial appointment, he served as the Additional Solicitor General for the Karnataka High Court.
He was appointed as the senior standing counsel for the Election Commission of India and as an additional central government standing counsel in 1999, official sources said.
He has also served as standing counsel for the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Competition Commission of India, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and the National Institute of Unani Medicines, to name a few, they said.
Having been appointed as the assistant solicitor general of India in 2014, he was appearing for the central government in numerous important cases till his elevation as a judge of the High Court of Karnataka on February 14, 2018.
