Justice For Nirbhaya: Convicts Were Quiet Before Pre-Dawn Hanging
New Delhi: Of the four Nirbhaya convicts hanged on Friday, Mukesh Singh and Vinay Sharma had dinner while Akshay Kumar Singh had only tea on Thursday night. They were mostly quiet, ANI reported quoting the Tihar Jail DG Sandeep Goel.
“The convicts had not expressed any last wish or will to authorities,” an official said.
The four were hanged at 5.30 am on Friday after the Supreme Court rejected a last-minute plea filed by one of the convicts seeking a review of the death penalty.
After seven years, the 23-year-old paramedical student, who was brutally gang-raped by six men in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012, finally got justice.
“As soon as I returned from the Supreme Court, I hugged the picture of my daughter and said today you have got justice. Nirbhaya’s soul will now rest in peace,” said her mother Asha Devi.
Security at the Tihar Jail was beefed up before the execution of the convicts. The four were declared dead at around 6 am. The bodies were then moved to DDU hospital for postmortem around 8.31 am. The remains will be handed over to the families after the postmortem, the DG added.
