Bhubaneswar: Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court in Bihar.
President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Sahoo as the Chief Justice of Patna HC by exercising the power conferred upon her by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Justice has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of Justice Sahoo as the Chief Justice of Patna HC.
“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, Judge of the Orissa High Court as Chief Justice of Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” read the notification.
Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, enrolled as an advocate in 1989, has a distinguished career specialising in criminal and service law. Elevated to the Orissa High Court bench in July 2014, he also served as the Executive Chairman of the Odisha State Legal Services Authority. His extensive experience on the bench and in administration makes him well-suited to lead the Patna High Court, which faces a substantial pendency of cases.
