Bengaluru: Kannada actress and former Bigg Boss contestant Divya Suresh has been accused of driving the car involved in a hit-and-run in Bengaluru in the wee hours of October 4.

A young woman fractured her kneecap after the car hit a motorcycle. Surveillance camera footage revealed that the driver of the car did not stop after knocking down the three people on the bike.

The incident is from Bengaluru’s Byatarayanapura area. It took place around 1.30 am on October 4, when three people were on their way to a hospital on a motorcycle. The three individuals on the bike were identified as Anusha, Anita, and Kiran. According to the complaint, the biker swerved slightly to avoid barking stray dogs, at which point the car, allegedly driven by Divya, collided with them.

Anita was rushed to the hospital with a fractured kneecap, while the others escaped with minor injuries.

“While on our way to the hospital, near Byatarayanapura Police Station, a lady in a black KIA car hit and ran despite calling her to stop,” the victim’s cousin said.

The injured woman was first taken to New Life Hospital, then to BGS Hospital for further treatment. A complaint was lodged 2-3 days after the incident, following which police began investigating and identified Divya as the alleged driver.

Anita’s injuries required surgery at BGS Hospital, costing approximately Rs 2 lakh. According to her family, she will be bedridden for an extended period due to the severity of her knee injury.

Kiran, who was riding with Anita and Anusha, filed a formal complaint on October 7. The family alleged that Divya has not contacted or offered any assistance to the victim since the accident.

The cousin recounted that while taking their unwell relative to the hospital, the car ploughed into them and left the scene despite their calls for help. Police arranged an auto rickshaw to transport the injured woman.

Byatarayanapura Traffic Police registered an FIR and began investigating. CCTV footage helped trace the vehicle to Divya. Her car was seized as part of the inquiry. Divya, however, managed to get the vehicle released overnight.

Anoop Shetty, superintendent of police for the Cyber Crime Division, said that a case has been registered under relevant sections and that both parties delayed filing complaints. The investigation found the driver to be Divya, and further inquiry is underway. Initial findings suggested the bikers were triple riding and that overspeeding may have been a factor, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

The Byatarayanapura Police continue to collect evidence and review CCTV footage to reconstruct the events of that night.
