Srinagar: The brutal killing of Rahul Bhat in Kashmir Valley has put the spotlight back on Kashmiri Pandits. And politicians wasted no time in blaming ‘The Kashmir Files’ for the recent violence targeting the community.
Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah said on Monday said that Vivek Agnihotri’s much talked-about film has given birth to hate in the country.
“We met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to raise the issue of law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, I told him that the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has given birth to hate in the country and such things (films) should be banned,” the senior National Conference leader said.

Another ex-CM of Jammu & Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti echoed Abdullah’s view, saying that an atmosphere of hatred has been created in the valley after the release of ‘The Kashmir Files’, starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi.
“We created a safe atmosphere for Kashmiri Pandits. In 2010 and 2016 during peak unrest, no killing happened. The Kashmir Files movie has now triggered it. They are creating Hindu-Muslim issues to distract from real topics,” the PDP chief remarked.
Terrorists barged into a Tehsildar office in Chadoora town of Budgam district last week and fired at Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit government employee.
A group of government employees from Kashmiri Pandit community has written to the Lt Gov. urging him to evacuate them from Kashmir valley as they didn’t feel safe there.
