New Delhi: Two days after a Khalistani terror group opened fire at Kapil Sharma’s newly-opened café in Canada, the Indian actor-comedian faced fresh threats.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, founder of pro-Khalistan separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has ordered Kapil to take his ‘blood money’ back to ‘Hindustan.’
Pannun, designated as an ‘individual terrorist’ by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019, accused Kapil of promoting Hindutva ideology on the pretext of doing business in Canada and said the country will not allow such ideas to take shape on its soil.
“Canada is not your playground. Take your blood money back to Hindustan. Canada will not allow violent Hindutva ideology to take root on Canadian soil under the guise of business,” Pannun warned in a video message.
Pannun sought to know if Kap’s Café, set up in Surrey, British Columbia, was “just a comedy venue or part of a larger strategy to export Hindutva… One business at a time,” he said.
On Wednesday night (Canadian time), unknown men fired several rounds targeting café. Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh, linked to proscribed terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility for the attack.
Kap’s Café said in an Instagram post they were “processing the shock” but stands firm against violence.
Kapil, who currently hosts the popular Netflix show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, hasn’t yet commented on the incident.
SFJ is a banned organisation under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for its anti-national activities. Pannun is facing over 100 cases in India, of which the National Investigation Agency is probing.
