Kingpin Of Inter-State Brown Sugar Racket Arrested In Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: A joint team of STF of Odisha and West Bengal on Thursday arrested the kingpin of interstate brown sugar racket from Jaleswar in the district.

According to sources, the accused, identified as Lalan Saha, a fish trader of Jaleswar, used to smuggle brown sugar during supply of fish from West Bengal to local market. Though Bengal police were aware of Lalan’s operation, they could not trace him.

Following a tip-off that Lalan was present in a garage near Jaleswar police station, the joint team of STF conducted a raid on the place and nabbed him.

The Bengal STF had seized 13 kg of brown sugar during a raid on a house in Sripally under East Bardhaman police limits two days back. It also arrested 6 persons in this connection and seized some chemicals, a currency note counting machine, packing machine and Rs 20.10 lakh from their possession.

During interrogation of the arrested persons, Bengal police came to know that the kingpin of the racket, Lalan, belonged to Jaleswar and contacted their Odisha counterpart.
