Srirangapatna: The daughter of a BJP MLA has been accused of assaulting and threatening a woman police sub-inspector (PSI) at the Arathi Ukkada temple in Srirangapatna taluk of Karnataka.
Her father, B Suresh Gowda, the MLA from the Tumakuru Rural constituency, has apologised on his daughter’s behalf.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8.15 pm on August 12, when PSI Savitha B of the Mandya Women’s Police Station was deployed at the temple for special security duty during Bhima Amavasya, as reported by timesnow.in.
Gowda’s daughter, Aishwarya, who is the wife of ACP Gautham, allegedly argued with the PSI over a delay in allowing her to have darshan, as per the complaint.
She then allegedly abused the police officer, slapped her, assaulted her, and obstructed her from carrying out her duty, while threatening her, it has been mentioned in the complaint.
An FIR has been registered against her at Kyathanahalli Police Station under Sections 132, 115(2), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Mandya SP, however, said a counter-complaint has also been filed by Aishwarya, alleging that the PSI abused her during the argument.
Gowda apologised over the incident involving his daughter and said she had visited the temple with her two children and requested permission to enter the sanctum sanctorum for darshan.
The police officials initially refused to allow her inside, while a circle inspector was permitted to enter. Aishwarya then identified herself as the MLA’s daughter and allegedly faced verbal abuse from the PSI, the MLA said.
The PSI allegedly responded to his daughter, following which the argument escalated into a physical altercation, Gowda said.
He had not seen the video of his daughter allegedly slapping the PSI, Gowda added, but apologised for the incident.
“I apologise. I am sorry for it,” he said.
