Lady Teacher Found Hanging In Odisha’s Ganjam; Suicide Or Foul Play?
Berhampur: A lady teacher was found hanging at a house in Dengadi village, under Pattapur police station, in Ganjam district on Monday.
Identified as Nilandri Mahanty, the 27-year-old had been married to fellow-teacher Jayasen Mahanty (30) for two years.
While Nilandri was teaching in a school at Kesinga block in Kalahandi district, Jayasen works in Kachakhandi UP School under Seragada block in Ganjam.
Nilandri had come to her husband’s place at Dengadi village two days ago.
When police reached their home, Jayasen was bleeding as he had cut his hand and neck with glass splinters of a skylight. He was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, in a serious condition.
Jayasen said his wife had committed suicide, but Nilandri’s father and sister alleged that she had been killed.
Nilandri’s father lodged an FIR at Pattapur police station, alleging that Jayasen is a habitual gambler and often gambled online.
“Jayasen wasted the dowry money, his and his wife’s salaries and had recently borrowed money from others. I gave him Rs 4 lakh to tackle his financial burden and start life anew with my daughter. But he blew away all the money.” Nilandri’s father alleged.
He also claimed that Jayasen beat up Nilandri mercilessly with a belt and hanged her body in the room.
“There are clear markings of the belt on her body,” Nilandri’s father said.
Sabyasachi Malla, IIC Pattapur PS, said a full-fledged investigation is on.
A forensic team visited the spot.
