Khurda: Four weeks after the brutal murder of a lady teacher of Haripur Primary School in Tangi Block in Odisha’s Khurda district, police arrested the prime accused from Jatani on Friday.
The accused, identified as Kunu Jena, will be forwarded to the court on Saturday.
Police said the accused, during interrogation, said he had decided to eliminate the lady teacher Anjali Dehury of Kantabada area under Begunia police station limits as she knew about his illicit relationship with a minor girl and threatened him to inform the police.
Knowing that the Anjali was used to pass through the paddy field on the way to the school from her house, the accused had waited in the field near Badapokharia for her return from the school on January 4. While she was crossing the field, he suddenly attacked her with a bamboo plank killing her on the spot.
Soon after committing the crime, Jena fled to Surat.
However, police, in course of investigation, tracked his mobile phone and came to know about his presence in Jatani and arrested him on Friday.
“We have arrested the prime accused seized the bamboo plank used in the murder of the lady teacher from his possession. The accused will be forwarded to the court later in the day today,” police said.
