Like Men In Blue, Indian Women Make Short Work Of Pakistan
Mumbai: Just over a month after Rohit Sharma’s men conjured a magical win against Babar Azam’s team, India were far superior to their Pakistani counterparts in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 clash in Sri Lanka’s Dambulla on Friday evening.
After bowling out Pakistan for 108, India coasted to a 7-wicket victory with nearly 6 overs to spare.
Smriti Mandhana (45 off 31 balls) and Shafali Verma (40 off 29) gave India a brisk start with an 85-run opening stand in 9 overs.
The Indians lost three wickets in under three overs, but the target was well within reach.
Earlier, a combination of pace and spin choked Pakistan. New-ball operators Renuka Singh (2/14) and Pooja Vastrakar (2/31) were well supported by off-spinners Deepti Sharma (3/20) and Shreyanka Patil (2/14).
Indian eves, favourites to lift the Cup, will face the UAE on July 21 and Nepal on July 23 in their remaining Group A fixtures.
