Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was among the first to visit the hospital in Kolkata where RJD MLA and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav’s child was born on Monday evening. Mamata met Tejashwi’s wife Rajshree on Tuesday and inquired about her well-being.
A beaming Tejashwi ushered Mamata into the cabin and said how the Trinamool Congress chief is the baby boy’s “local guardian”, adding that she was already aware of the development and had been very supportive of the family.
In response, Mamata said: “I have known for some time that Rajshri is in Kolkata, and Tejashwi had shared the news of the baby’s arrival with me last evening. I promised I would visit, and today I did, with affection and blessings in my heart.”
She also encouraged Tejashwi ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. “Lalu Yadav and Rabri ji are here, and they are also very happy. I wish peace and happiness to the family of Tejashwi. Elections are also approaching in Bihar, I wish him best wishes,” Mamata said.
According to Tejashwi, their daughter, born in March 2023, was named after Goddess Katyayani by his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, as she was born on the sixth day of Navratri.
“Today is Tuesday, it is the day of Lord Hanuman, I have a faith on him, when my daughter was born, I wanted a girl as first child, she took birth on the day 6 of Navratri, since it was the day of Goddess Katyayani, my father gave her name of Katyayani. Now family members are talking about names, everyone would propose a name, the name will be finally decided by my father…,” he said.
