Lockdown Blues: Bored Of Movies? Here’s A List Of Inspiring Short Films You Can Binge-Watch

Not all of us have the patience to sit and watch a two-hour movie for entertainment or inspiration. Some of us need the fun of hours wrapped in short duration motions. So, if you belong to the lot and crave some short film entertainment, here’s a list from which you can binge-watch during Lockdown 4.0.

Kriti

short film

Watch this if you haven’t already. This can be counted as one of the best Indian short thriller dramas you will find on YouTube. Packed with an amazing cast of Radhika Apte, Manoj Bajpayee and Neha Sharma, this suspense and thriller ‘Dark Drama’ will surely leave you wondering what just happened with its awarded soundtrack – a defining mark of the film.

A Monsoon Date

Next up in the list is this romantic flick, which will take you through an eventful, rainy evening in which a young woman (Konkona Sen)  is on her way to see a young man she is dating, But nothing is as smooth as you think, especially not this date.

Tindey

short film

Ever heard of the super fun dating app Tindey? Well, if you are bored of being bored, then watch this short film, which will give you everything in one place – fun, emotions and deep thought. Directed by Seema Desai it has Rajesh Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adah Sharma Mukesh Bhatt.

Chutney

Short film

No, don’t even think it is going to be delicious. There’s twist at the end of it, which will leave a bitter taste in your mouth. The centre of attention – Tisca Chopra as Anita will spook you with her calm yet dark manor. Do not sit with pakoras and especially not chutney while you binge on this. It is directed by Jyoti Kapur Das

Ahalya

Released way back in 2015, this short film still tops the chart. With Radhika Apte in the lead role and directed by popular director Sujoy Ghosh, Ahalya is an epic thriller and a modern adaption of the mythical story of Ahalya with a feminist angle to it.

Khujli

You would have never seen Jackie Shroff like this. Turning the otherwise hush topic of sex in front of parents into a hilarious drama, a boring middle-class couple will tickle you into a 30-year-old’s itch. It is directed by Sonam Nair with Neena Gupta as the female lead.

Bebak

It has to be an extraordinary film when there is Nawaazudin Siddiqui in it. Based on a true story, this short film explores the patriarchal notion of male agency over female bodies. It is constructed on a systematic theological idea that requires women to cover up and be ‘more modest, respectful and acceptable’ by society. If you’re a feminist and hardcore critique of patriarchy, binge on this film directed by Shazia Iqbal.

Juice

Similar to the last one and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, this short film won the Filmfare Award for Best Short Film and Best Actor (Female). It takes you through  chaotic and sexist family gatherings that pay little to no attention to women working behind the scene, disrespected and forgotten.

Anukul

It is based on Satyajit Ray’s short story of the same name and is another marvellous direction by Sujoy Ghosh. A short film of the sci-fi genre, this is a deep take on a human-machine relationship that we are bound to face some day.

Devi

With a deep and chilling portrayal of the situation of women in our country, this short film will hit you like none other. From the gaze of the film director, Priyanka Banerjee, you will see how grossly rape is overlooked in our country. The message hits you hard as the film ends leaving you thinking and pondering for a long while.
