Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea in west-central Bay of Bengal on Thursday (November 18), warning of squalls with wind speed gusting to 60 kmph under the influence of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

“The low-pressure area over north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level persists. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become well-marked over east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move nearly westwards and reach west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh-north Tamil Nadu coasts on November 18,” the Met office said in its mid-day bulletin.

The IMD further said that the possibility of further intensification of the system appears to be low, owing to the enhanced likelihood of formation of another low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea off the south Maharashtra coast during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, several places in north Odisha received light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers on Monday. Only a few places in south Odisha received rainfall while one place in Jagatsinghpur received heavy rainfall.

The rainfall activity is likely to continue till November 19, the Met office said.

November 15

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at a few places over north Odisha districts and at one or two places over south Odisha districts.

November 16

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely at one or two places in South Odisha, North coastal Odisha, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

November 17

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Ganjam.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha

November 18

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Puri.

November 19

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and at one or two places in the rest districts of Odisha.

On the other hand, a maximum temperature of 32.3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Sonepur and the lowest, 18 degrees Celsius, was recorded at Sundargarh. Dense fog engulfed several places in the morning, reducing visibility.

Bhubaneswar recorded the maximum temperature was 29.8 degrees Celsius, and the minimum was 22.1 degrees. The state capital received a rainfall of 6.6 mm. There was dense fog in the morning reducing visibility to 200 metres.

“There will be no large change in minimum temperature( night temperature) and it will be above normal by 2 – 3 degrees during the next 4 to 5 days,” the bulletin added.
