Puri: ‘Maha Snana’ ritual was performed at Shree Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri on Monday after blood stains were found on the shrine premises.
Darshan of the sibling deities was halted for about an hour during this special ritual.
According to sources, a policeman posted at the temple injured his foot after stepping on a broken glass. The blood stains were spotted immediately after the Abakas Niti (morning rituals) of the sibling deities.
During Maha Snana, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are not bathed. Rather, the ritual is performed by pouring water on brass mirrors in which the images of the idols are reflected amid chanting of mantras.
This is expected to delay the Paita Lagi Niti, which was scheduled to be held between 5 pm and 10 pm. The temple gates will be closed for devotees during this period.
