Cuttack: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has cancelled her 3-day trip to North Bengal and will instead travel to Odisha on Tuesday (June 6) to  personally inquire about the well-being of injured train passengers being treated in the twin cities of the neighbouring state and to gather information about unidentified dead bodies.

The Chief Minister will be accompanied by state ministers Chandrima Bhattacharya and Sashi Panja.

“They will visit different hospitals. I will visit Cuttack hospital where the condition of 30 injured persons is stated to be serious,” Mamata told reporters in Kolkata.

After arriving here around 2 pm, she will take a chopper to Cuttack and visit SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Around 148 injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital and many of them are natives of West Bengal, sources said.

According to latest updates, 1,009 of 1,207 admitted to different government and private hospitals have been discharged. Among the remaining 198, one patient is under critical care. Among the dead, 170 bodies have so far been identified and the state government is making arrangements for free transportation by hearses/dead body carriers till destination.

The triple train accident, one of the deadliest in India’s history, at Bahanaga Bazar railway station  in Balasore district on Friday (June 2) claimed 275 lives.
